Commodore’ s Corner
It has been my pleasure to serve as your Commodore this year. I hope that you will support me as your Commodore for next year. As I have said before the year seems to have gone by really fast. Many of you have mentioned that you are pleased with the way the year has gone. The new equipment for the kitchen has helped our staff in providing quality food with timely service. The new menu and extended hours of service have been well received. Full menu service is offered now in all areas of the club. The new dishes have been ordered and should arrive soon.
We have two large events happing at our Yacht Club. First in October we will be hosting the Viper 640 North American Championship. In November we are the host club for the FCYC General Meeting. These two events will bring a lot of new people to our Club. The appointments committee and our staff have been working hard to make sure our club looks its best. The front entrance has been reworked with the addition of large pots with plants. Some plants were replaced and decorative white rock added. The memorial area was cleaned up and a white fence added to set it off. Thanks to Bill Bushelle for replacing the ugly wood box with a much nicer dinghy. Damaged ceiling tiles have been replaced in the Castaway Room and the Commodores Room. In our dining room the buffet was refinished and our speaker podium was given a facelift. As your Commodore next year I plan to continue as we have this year. I fully support all actives of our club. I think we need to offer our members value for the money they invest in our club. As we grow and gain new members we need to offer services and events that they desire. I want Fort Walton
Yacht Club to be a place where everyone feels welcome. Thank you for your support.

FCA
This year some of our Junior Members have made quite a reputation for themselves as well as our Club.
George Hambleton, Ian Hunter, and William Wells competed in the Flying Scot in US Sailling’ s Chubb US Junior Sailing Championship – Area D held at Fairhope Yacht Club. They won the regatta and therefore, the right to compete for the US Junior Triple Handed Championship for the Sears in New Jersey.
This meant that expenses would be adding up and they would need some help. Along with the ECSA and the FWYC, the FCA gladly helped with some of their financial needs. We are very proud of their dedication which culminated in advancement to the Chubb. This crew took a 5th place out of the ten boats participating. Congratulations, well done!!
If you haven’ t noticed the signs above each room in the Club, please take a moment to locate them; they are above the doors at the entry to each room. This is the FCA’ s project gift to the FWYC for 2017. This should be helpful for visitors to our facility as to where the rooms are by name.
