EACH HURRICANE SEASON your Commodore watches, reviews situations and makes
decisions accordingly. It’s been many years since FWYC, its property and its docks were in
a possibility of harm’s way. This was a hard decision, but given the forecast and the inten-
sity, I feel we made the right decision for FWYC. With Hurricane Michael, we proved that
we could do what needed to be done to secure our property and especially our docks. We
were extremely lucky, as only 50 to 60 miles to our east, destruction like none of us have
ever witnessed occurred.
My heart felt THANK YOU goes out to the following members, staff, and some friends who
gave their time and expertise to ensure that our docks and dry storage were evacuated,
and that all boats were as safe as possible. Our docks are not insured, which makes the
decision to evacuate a priority. Although we were able to get every vessel out of our wet
slips, the main dock sustained some damage. The damage was temporarily repaired by
members and a dock company has been contacted to do the permanent fix.
My apologies to anyone omitted from the list.

The Hurricane Debrief on 25 October was informative. We realized some inadequacies
in our wet slip contracts. We are working to correct this. There also was discussion about
improving our overall communications from the Club. We will be doing a test on all mem-
ber emails and phone numbers. Many members no longer have a landline and that is the
number the Club has. Please help us by getting our Club information correct.
The new offerings in our food service have been much appreciated as is evident in the
increased numbers of lunch diners each day. Another welcomed addition is the Fish Sand-
wich Grande which has a larger portion of fish. It’s not yet on the menu, so ask your serv-
er about it. We will be implementing some tweaking of our menu to bring prices in line.
