FWYC Letter Log March 2017 | Page 7

am Jim Serpa , your 2017 Dry Storage Manager . After

I taking on the position in May 2016 , Vice Commodore David Vaughn asked me to continue on in 2017 . I will do my best to help make and keep Dry Storage a vibrant part of FWYC property . Of course , there is much more to do than can be handled by one person . Many thanks to our dedicated volunteers who worked so hard at one or more of the three help days this past year to help keep our Dry Storage and surrounding grounds in tip top shape . Our help days were some of the windiest I have experienced with steady winds around 15 knots each day . On the positive side , it kept any type of flying pest away .

We tamed the weeds in nearly all slips as well in the surrounding landscaping the sea wall and around the pavilion . Additionally , thanks to P / C Reddoch Williams for help in flattening the beachside catamaran slips for easier access . The sand from that effort was placed between two of our beach areas while we determine the best place to use the sand . Watch for announcements of 2017 help days as Spring approaches .
2016 volunteers : Jerry Black , Gerry Harvey , Jim and Carolyn Williford , Jan and Charles Hine , Linda Wright , Randy Smyth , Kip Keelin , Barry Pritchett , P / C Reddoch and Judy Williams .
If you have equipment in Dry Storage , please be conscientious to keep your slip weeded and free of clutter . Try to stop by to check out your slip on a regular basis so it doesn ’ t get out of control . If everyone helps keep the weeds under control , we will all benefit by having fewer weeds propagate each season . We targeted noxious weeds like sand spurs and the weeds that quickly grow into bushes while leaving the friendly weeds like dollar weed and other low-lying ground covers like clover to help stabilize the ground . Also , ensure your trailer / vessel is safely tied down when not in use . Some wind storms pop up with little notice .

Thanks to a flurry of new additions over the past few 7months , dry storage permanent slips ( not on the sea wall ) are essentially full . There are a few areas where we can create a few more slips with some creative resizing of slips . We ’ ll do that as needed to minimize disruptions . We still try to keep the seawall as clear as possible so it is available for regattas and other member use on a temporary basis .

If your trailer / vessel does not have a FWYC sticker , please stop by the office to get one from Sandra . It is important that everything stored on Club property is clearly marked so we know it belongs to a Club member .
It is lease renewal time of year again . Announcements coming soon with directions to renew your lease for the next 12 months . If you have any questions or concerns about Dry Storage , please contact me at 850-398-3724 or jim _ kerrie @ yahoo . com .
