Fort Walton Yacht Club Letter Log JUNE 2018 30° 25.60’N 86° 35.58’W Commodore’s Corner By Commodore Faye Black email: [email protected] I AM AMAZED each day at the talent of FWYC members. My biggest amazement in May was witnessing the take-down and reconstruction of the Brinckmann Pavilion. I can still remember over 35 years ago, when we replaced a small 12x12 covered slab with this much needed family friendly structure. The excitement, planning, drawings and construction that went into the initial building the Brinckmann Pavilion was done by mostly young fa- thers and older grandfathers for our young kids to enjoy. Recently, Vice Commodore Craig Stoldt departed for the Spring Fling, he appointed Jen- nifer Grant as the “Foreman” of the project of ripping up the floor boards of the Brinck- mann and replacing them. Little did Craig know that the entire structure would be transformed into a beautiful, functional space for members, and especially families to enjoy. The bench seating is comfortable, the rails lowered so that the view is unobscured, the steps are safe and easy to climb, as well as providing extra seating. Please take a walk out to the Brinckmann and see this wonderful asset to our Club, and if you see Jennifer or one of her helpers, please thank them for an exceptional job well done! Another project that has been a long time coming is the repair to the stairs on the east side of the point. Gerry Harvey spearheaded this effort. The stairs lead to the shallow area for members and guests, young and older to enjoy. Thanks, Gerry, Steve, and Carson! Our Club continues to grow financially and the increase in membership is certainly one reason. The best way to keep members in our club is to be friendly and inviting to newcom- ers. Be sure to introduce yourself if you see a new face. We will see many guests around the Club this month and next because of the ECSA Sailing Camps. Each family is of- fered an FWYC Event Membership during the week and fol- lowing weekend of each weekly camp. Hopefully, these fami- lies will like what they see and have a favorable experience. Have a great June and enjoy your awesome Club! 2
