Letter Log July 2019 30° 25.60’N 86° 35.58’W Commodore's Report Well, the month of June sure brought a flurry of activity to FWYC. Regattas are in full swing for both the PHRF (large boats) and the Portsmouth (small boats) fleets with great participation. The Krewe of Bowlegs used the club as a launch point for their invasion of the city. That event went very well and all of our staff and volunteers should be congratulated on a job well done. The ECSA sailing camps also started with 30+ kids in each of the weeklong sessions. Paul Beaudry, our sailing director, has hired a staff of young adults that are ensuring the kids all learn sailing in a safe and fun environment. Paul has also been holding Learn to Race sessions on Saturdays to get the young Opti sailors ready for regattas. The practice has paid off as you can find elsewhere in the Letter Log. All of this has exposed our club to many people that have indicated they would like to be part of this organization. The offering of various membership categories that the Membership Committee set up last year has shown great appeal to these prospective members as is evidenced by our application board again overflowing. For July, activities will be continuing with our Rear Commodore offering various activities. I will be hosting the Commodore's July 4th Summer Celebration with food, games, friends and a great venue for fireworks (see the Flyer and come on down). In concert with Independence Day, there will a Sundown Ceremony on Friday, July 5th at 6:00 pm with the Eglin Color Guard performing the flag lowering. Hope to see you at one or more of these events. Smooth Sailing to all,. Craig 2
