Fort Walton Yacht Club Letter Log JULY 2018 30° 25.60’N 86° 35.58’W HOMEPORT By Vice Commodore Craig Stoldt Email: VICE [email protected] WELL, HERE WE ARE halfway through the year. A lot of volunteers have taken on a lot of projects to keep the FWYC a place to enjoy. The month of June saw Kerrie Serpa head up a task to upgrade the scat boat. Safety gear was enhanced including bilge pumps, the radio antenna and the installation of a swim ladder to facilitate rescues. These up- grades greatly improve the effectiveness of the vessel to function as a safety vessel for lessons and regattas. The boat lift for the scat boat has also been rehabbed to permit the proper storage and launch of the boat. With all this, the list of certified users was reviewed and found to be VERY out of date. All those desiring to be certified to use the boat must go through an introduction session to review the equipment and oper- ating procedures for the boat & lift. Improvements to the Brinckmann continue with the addition of new furniture to relax in. The repairs to the South Docks will be starting very soon. Disruptions will hopefully be minimal, but please be aware of materials and dock configuration changes as you transit this area. Several maintenance items have popped up and it amazes me that some people then come forward & say “Oh, that’s been like that for weeks/months”. If you see something amiss, please report it! There are work chits on the bulletin board over the refrigerator in the office or just drop a note into the office mailbox. Usually, the longer we wait, the worse the situation becomes.
