Page 17 also enjoyed operating the big equipment, and who wouldn't, but it didn't fulfill his passion for sailboat racing. So, around 1985, he moved back to Fort Walton Beach and has been sailing ever since. His brothers, Barry and Sam are also club members. His brother, Gary was a member until a few years ago. Sandy Zevin and Stan Wilusz had a huge influence on Phil. Besides being very competitive sailors, they both enjoyed "giving back to the club." This concept rings clear with Phil from those early days until today. Phil, third from left, with the 1987 winning team for the Meigs Regatta Phil has been One Design Chairman, Junior Phil in 1985 on Race Chairman, he was Fleet Captain for two years, he Committee (yes, that’s a Coca-Cola served on the Board of Directors, and was Vice Commodore in 2000. He has been a High School in his hand) Sailing Coach, and the list goes on and on. While on the Board of Directors, Phil helped to create the Trophy Chair position to keep the trophies updated and looking good. The creation of this position was a result of finding the Bowlegs Treasure Chest Trophy in a corner in major disrepair. So Phil gave the trophy a make-over and the Trophy Chair position was born. Phil also maintains the FWYC racing marks, but don't ask him why the "F" mark won't stay straight on the post. Phil Pritchett is an icon at FWYC. His friendly, helpful, non- Phil at the helm of Jibe Talkin’ at the start confrontational character endears him to everyone who gets to know him. of a race in 2013 If you would like to share your experiences growing up at FWYC, let us know, email - Faye Black, [email protected].
