Letter Log January 2020 30° 25.60’N 86° 35.58’W Commodore's Report 2020! Happy New Year to all the members of FWYC. I hope that those of you that joined us for the Commodore’s Winter Ball had a wonderful time ringing in the New Year with other club members. Last year had a lot of positives to be proud of and I hope myself and the rest of the officers can deliver another year to be proud of. Membership continues to grow and slips (both wet and dry) are hard to come by. Building on last year’s hiring of Paul Beaudry as our sailing director, he has now started practice for the NWFSC sailing team. In addition, the younger folks are filling the beach with optis when practicing on Saturdays. This bodes well for the future of FWYC sailing. Fiscally, the club is in good financial shape and the budget for 2020 was adopted based on conservative numbers. Staff turnover has been one of our larger problems, but I feel we have a good group of people working here right now that appreciate the club and its members and want this to be their workplace for some time to come. Take the opportunity this year to get involved with the opportunities the club offers: get on a boat for a day (just ask!), volunteer to help with a committee, assist with a maintenance activity, join a team to get a social event planned & help decorate. There are many ways to help and through this meet more of our fine members. Again, from a personal perspective, thanks for all the help and support that was forthcoming last year. Cece also asked that a big thanks from her go out to all who worked to decorate the club for Christmas and to enhance that for the Winter Ball. Let’s all work together to make this year even better. As far as involvement, we are still in need of a Letter Log editor for the coming year. Please step up to the task so we do not go without our monthly newsletter Happy New Year, Craig 2
