Fort Walton Yacht Club Letter Log January 2018 30° 25.60’N 86° 35.58’W Commodore’s Corner By Commodore Faye Black email: [email protected] Happy New Year to all FWYC Members! I WOULD LIKE TO EXPRESS my sincere appreciation to our 2017 Commodore Ray Dewrell and his wife, Ann. Ray and Ann both worked tirelessly for FWYC throughout the year. Their projects of improvements can be noticed at our Club entrance and through- out the Club. Ray’s leadership saw a significant increase in new memberships and above all, kept our club on an even keel, financially and socially. Ray has made the transition to 2018 seamless, and he assures me that he is available when needed. Thank you, Ray and Ann for all that you have done for FWYC. As we start a new year, we begin a journey together that will demonstrate improvements for FWYC. My focus in 2018 will be on improved communication, increased involvement in committees, and putting more kids and adults in boats on the bayou. With these objec- tives, also comes the goals set forth during my campaign for your 2018 Commodore: • Continue to make our Club the place where people want to come for a good time. • Promote casual venues, such as the Pasta Bar/New Member Meet ‘n Greet for mem- bers to socialize. • Establish a program to reach out to members who have not been active; ask for their input on social, boating, and other activities to draw them back into active membership. • Clean up the Point, to make it an asset to the Club for member parties, weddings, swim parties, and a countless array of outside events. • Continue the efforts to diversify culinary offerings in the Dining Room, Lounge, Cast- away Room, and Patio, and feature selections members want. • Ensure that our clubhouse and grounds are always pristine and welcoming. • Review accounts, to eliminate unnecessary costs and increase revenue. These objectives and goals sustain the general purposes and objectives of the FWYC corporation, which are to support yachting and social endeavors for members. Working together to accomplish these goals and objectives will result in improved value of Club memberships and increase membership numbers. As Commodore, I am responsible for eight commit- tees and I’ve picked some outstanding members to head these committees, but committees need members to be effective. Check the Letter Log and Club Bulletin Board for a list of committees and their chairmen. Join if you can, whether you have an hour a month, several hours each week or just an occasional opportunity to help, make it known to a committee chair that you are available. Our Vice Commodore, Craig Stoldt has five standing committees and will be reactivating the Landscape Committee which enlists gardeners and members who just like to help out 2
