ECSA – The Emerald Coast Sailing Association began in 1992 as a non-profit association by members of the Fort Walton Yacht Club and the Bluewater Bay Sailing Club. These sailing fathers realized a need for an organization to foster local sailing. The ECSA provides summer sailing lessons for children and adults each summer at FWYC and at Bluewater Bay. The partnership between FWYC and ECSA provides sailboats for FWYC members to use in return for storage space and a launching beach for ECSA sailing lesson participants. ECSA also sponsors high school sailing teams throughout the year and many of these students go on to sail in college. When it gets closer to summer, check out their website www. ecsasailing. com to find out about lessons.
FCA – The Florida Commodores Association is an organization of current and Past Commodores throughout the state of Florida. Prior to 2009, our Past Commodores belonged to the International Order of the Blue Gavel. The FCA serves as a greatly needed link among Florida yacht clubs, providing exchange of information among clubs statewide. Its educational program is designed to improve the quality of leadership in yacht clubs by providing instruction in the proper functioning of clubs and the customs and courtesies of yachting. Our Past Commodores provide history and tradition to our club members. Our local chapter of FCA sponsors a regatta each year and provides funds for enhancements throughout the Club. One of the most noteworthy contributions that the FCA members organize here at FWYC are the Sundowner Ceremonies several times each year. Our Club members enjoy this patriotic ceremony as we salute our flag.
We hope this gives some insight to new members and members who may have been confused by all the initials floating around the Club. Each of these organizations serve as a vital part or an important partnership with the Fort Walton Yacht Club.
