Proposed Bylaw Change

Director Lou Richard proposed an increase in the Dock Fees at the January Board Meeting. This equates to a 4 % increase for all Wet and Dry slips. Director Richard indicated that this would keep the fees at the level which was in effect after the December Board Meeting.

This increase will be voted on its 2nd reading at the Board Meeting on February 21st.
If you have any questions or comments, please contact Director Richard or another member of the Board.

The Meritorious Service Award was presented at the Change of Watch on January 7 to Jennifer Grant. As prescribed by the Deed of Gift, only service during the current year could be considered, however, most members are aware of her continuing service over the past years.

A major contribution while Chair of the Appointments Committee, she worked tirelessly over many months managing and overseeing new flooring for the club within the budget. This was a huge project. Jennifer not only educated herself, but the club members, who enthusiastically anticipated this project coming to fruition, which it did.
Creating a vignette( with a little help from Sam) answered many questions queried by club members. With this vignette set up, the membership could visually appreciate the custom designed carpet for the Dining Room and Commodore’ s Room with the furniture, as well as the coordinated carpet tiles in the other areas.
Jennifer physically helped to remove the old flooring in preparation for the new tile, worked with other club volunteers with grouting, and in general was“ hands on” for the entire project. As everyone knows, this was a long overdue and badly needed enhancement for our club.
Seeing the need to replace dining tables with furniture in the foyer and Castaway Room, she haunted flea markets, Waterfront Mis- sion, etc. until she found the right pieces for very little money. Refinishing was her next step; spend- ing many hours creating two pieces of very used fur- niture into beautiful additions to our club. Please check them out.
Her enthusiasm didn’ t stop here. Jennifer was a very active member of the Enter- tainment Committee. Her ideas for the events showed up in her artful signage, pictures or whatever would add to the theme; such as
Derby Day, Oktoberfest and Halloween. Jennifer, as chair for the New Year’ s Eve party, created the theme and directed the décor which was beautifully done.
In addition to her being part of the Race Committee when needed, Jennifer was Regatta Chair for the J-22 Midwinters. This is a huge regatta. Participating sailors were from all over the country. This regatta required great organizational skills as well as expertise. Utilizing other venues in order to accommodate all activities was an important part of having a successful regatta.
Jennifer continually works on self help days; always ready to do what is needed, painting, cleaning out dry slip areas, etc. She has never backed away from hard work.
Jennifer was, and is again this year, along with Sam, Co-Editor of the Letter Log. Many hours are spent coordinating information and articles which must surely have been done after midnight, as it is apparent there is not enough hours in the day for all she accomplishes. By the way, she also has a very viable painting business.
One can look around and see her talent, such as the new artwork just completed now hanging on the walls in the Dining Room.
