More and more people are finding the Fort Walton Yacht
Club. These new members are the life blood of our club, bringing new energy, new participation and an opportunity to expand our FWYC family. So, what are we doing to make the transition of these new members run smoothly? PC Skip Harrington provides an excellent orientation for all new members, introducing them to the rules and as well as activities of our club. However, we all need to become more active in helping these new members get involved, finding their place.
The Membership Committee challenges each member who sponsors a potential member to include these new members in what you enjoy at the club for their first two months after joining. Whether it’ s Friday Nights, Taco Tuesday, Game Night Wednesday, WOW, Parties, Regattas, Race Committee, Cruises, or a host of other activities, invite a new member to experience your favorite activities. Introduce these new folks to other members at the club.
In fact, when you sign an application for membership, you are stating that you will show these new members around. Let’ s all make this happen within the first two months. Below is a reminder of what the Membership Application states:
SPONSOR: I have known the applicant for _____________( specify how long) as a friend or business associate( circle one) and recommend him / her for membership in the Fort Walton Yacht Club. I further understand and accept the obligations of sponsorship and I will present the applicant to other members, advise him / her of Club procedures and I will generally assist the applicant during the early stages of membership.
NEW MEMBERS: It’ s also up to you to get involved. No matter the reason you joined FWYC, there are many reasons and opportunities to expand the value of your membership. Our parties are awesome and cater to all age groups, most of our parties are“ kid friendly,” too. Of course it takes volunteers and talent to make the parties a success. The Entertainment Committee is loads of fun.
The Race Committee is always looking for volunteers. We can’ t sail without people on land or on boats starting and finishing our races. If you would like to race or learn how to race, join our racing group.
If you own a boat, check out our monthly overnight cruises and our bi-annual weeklong cruises. On the weeklong cruises, you can go for all of the time or just a couple of days.
Below are listed some contact information for some of the committees mentioned. The main thing is to GET IN- VOLVED! You’ ll be glad you did.
