The FWYC Chapter of
the Florida
Commodores
Association
The FCA Winter meeting will be hosted by the St Andrews
Bay Yacht Club on 7 - 8 February, 2014. St. Andrews Bay
Yacht Club is our newest chapter and adds to the large
number of member clubs from the Panhandle Chapters.
Bay Point Yacht Club, Fort Walton Yacht Club, Navy
Yacht Club and Pensacola Yacht Club will also be
attending.
We were pleased to participate in our Club's Change of
Watch and had the opportunity to acknowledge our First
Commodore, Clifford Meigs (1951) and all Past
Commodores in the room. There is a long line of members
who have stepped up to contribute to the success and growth
of the Fort Walton Yacht Club... we welcome our newest
Commodore, Bobby Dewrell.
We were also pleased to announce June Scroggin as the
2013 recipient of the FCA Meritorious Service Award
which was presented at the
Change of Watch and Awards
Ceremony. This is awarded for
service to the Fort Walton
Yacht Club above and beyond
in 2013. June chair ed the 2013
Entertainment Committee. The
monthly events were enjoyed
by all who attended these wellplanned activities. June has a
very cheerful personality &

excellent organizational skills,

which were big factors in the
success of the entertainment with the 2013 Meritorious
Service Award
programs. Thank you June for
all you have done.
The FCA is in the process of creating the FCA Foundation,
Inc. It is slated to be a 501 c(3) not-for- profit corporation
which will allow our members to contribute to the education
and support of yachting... especially by the young people
of our state. In the past we have given support to Olympic
qualifying hopefuls and others. It is our hope that this will
be a vehicle thru which we can grow and strengthen our
support.
The Florida Council of
Yacht Clubs
Going cruising any time soon? You'll
want to know about the Florida Council of Yacht Clubs
(FCYC). Our membership affords our regular members
reciprocal privileges at other member clubs all over the state
of Florida. More information and detail about the FCYC can
be found at http://www.floridacouncilofyachtclubs.com/ or
you can contact one of your Directors... Tom Reynolds or
Reddoch Williams.
The most recent meeting was held in January at the St
Petersburg Yacht Club. We had 35 of the 36 member clubs
in attendance. Reddoch Williams, your alternate Director,
and his wife Judy represented the Club and gave us an
update.
Of particular interest is the wish by the Florida Wildlife
Commission to extend the Florida Pilot Mooring Field
Program. This program is of interest to all of us who may
travel up and down the ICW, visiting clubs along the way,
because it directly affects or ability to overnight “on the
hook” in navigable waters. The current Mooring and
Anchoring Program was established as a pilot program and
is set to expire in the summer of 2014. The FWC has asked
the legislature to extend the Pilot Mooring and Anchoring
Program for several more years.
There has been some slight relief in the cost of boat
registration.... but in reality, it only amounts to a couple of
dollars. You should also remember that if your boat is 30
years old, you may register it as an antique and realize
SUBSTANTIAL savings.
We will be going to the next meeting on 07-09 March 2014,
at the Marco Island Yacht Club, which looks like a great
place to visit.
...if you have comments or questions that you would like
to have addressed at the FCYC, please let us know.
