Commodore's Report
December! When growing up in rural northwest PA, this was a time
to hunker down indoors and stay warm. What a difference here. This
month and next is filled with event after event. Gina has a good
synopsis on most of these. However, I want to make special mention
of the Commodore’s Winter Ball on New Years Eve. We have worked
with Tom to put together a great menu. Oh, and the band! You will
be entertained by Platinum Premier. They are a talented, multi-
instrumental group from Pensacola that will keep us on the dance
floor. And, of course, we have the traditional Egg Nog Party, Boat
Parade & related events, and in January, the Change of Watch
ceremony. In addition to these fine social events, the on the water
activity continues (couldn’t find liquid water in Pa.). Our Opti racing
program is going strong on Saturdays under Paul’s guidance. What a
great sight to watch 20+ kids learning skills that will give them a
lifetime of fun. The NW Florida State College Sailing Club is getting
formed as I write this. You will soon be seeing them on the water
with Paul preparing them for competitions.
Beyond the social aspects, I have to thank Faye Black and her
membership committee for the innovative approach they have
instituted in attracting new members. We are now hovering in the
320+ level of members – a number we haven’t seen in many years.
Let’s make these new members welcome when you see them around
the club.
I also want to thank this past year’s officers. They dealt with
situations in a manner that showed a firm interest in keeping FWYC
a welcoming entity and a place for members to enjoy a variety of
pastimes. The election results show that you have elected another
slate of officers that should continue to make this club a vibrant place
to be. I have a couple of important roles to fill for next year: the
Ship’s Store needs a manager and the Letter Log needs a new editor.
Many thanks to Pam Brown & Kyle Volle for filling these roles this
past year.
Thanks to all for all the help, advice and encouragement through this
past year. We wouldn’t be the fine organization we are without the
membership stepping forward in all the ways they do.
Happy Holidays !
Craig
