Fort Walton Yacht Club Letter Log DECEMBER 2018 CHRISTMAS EVE ON ARIEL 30° 25.60’N 86° 35.58’W W.O.W. This night before Christmas, we’re home on our boat. Our socks are still dry; thank God we’re afloat! The ladies of the Ft. Walton Yacht Club members, spouses, friends - are ALL looking forward to the holidays. Past Hostesses of WOW have especially planned this month's activities. Lunch, the 6th of December at 11:30 am - we will be decorating the Commodores Room Christmas tree with our handmade ornaments. Of course, we'll enjoy our usual yummy luncheon and some holiday singing. What fun that will be!! On Thursday evening, the 20th of Decem- ber, our cocktail group will enjoy a special evening of relaxation before the last of the Christmas Rush. Do join us! We encourage all of you to come and enjoy the experience of WOW's regular monthly gatherings. Ladies are encouraged to get to know each other and to become better informed about FWYC events. Come and join us!! Call the office at 243-7102 for more info. Christmas stockings are hung in the most salty air. The presents are stowed over here – over there. Our children are gone and grandkids, as well. We seem to have gotten irresponsible as hell! Mom works in her galley, while I change the oil. Soon we’ll settle down for a night free from the toil. But wait! There’s a sigh, turning into a howl. We bolt out the hatch, first a smile then a scowl. Well, wouldn’t you know it, the winds are Force 10. Old anchor’s a-dragging; we’ll practice our Zen. As quick as it starts, it just fades away. The moon’s back a-shining; the stars hold their sway. Then silently yonder began to appear Eight silver-gray dolphins and not one reindeer. Hey look! They are pulling a man with a beard. He’s holding a trident and laughing real weird. They zoom by our boat with a twist and a turn. Big ones jumping and smiling while little ones learn. They’re out of the water, then back with a splash, Hard a-port, hard a-starboard, but they never crash! They speed by the bow, then they circle the stern… Faster still faster…we’ve so much to learn. And as they dove downwind, clear out of our sight, “Merry Christmas,” was heard, “Have a wonderful night!” A poem by Captain Bill Lowerison 1998 Seafarer's Book Club Thursday, December 13 th 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM In the Commodore's Room Ariel Lowerison 850 585 1216  [email protected] 18
