Letter Log August 2019 30° 25.60’N 86° 35.58’W Commodore's Report July has sure hit us with the heat. Hope you still got to enjoy the club during the month. A great crowd turned out for our July 4th celebration followed on the 5th with a moving Sundowner ceremony facilitated by our own honor guard of Ray Dewrell & Mickey LaGarde who did a great job with the flag on very short notice. August looks to be a quieter month with events set to avoid the heat either indoors and/or in the water. I want to extend a huge thank you to all the volunteers that seem to materialize out of thin air when something needs done. These unsung heroes help with a myriad of tasks that would otherwise cost us dearly to contract out. At the same time, the camaraderie that ensues is wonderful. It is a great way to meet more members and give back to the Club. In the spirit of believing we all want to make FWYC a place we love to spend time at, I am not one to promote rules dictating every facet of club use. Rather, I believe the membership is comprised of people who care about their fellow members and want all to enjoy what we have here. With that in mind, I am asking that those who bring their power boats up to the beaches on the west side of the point not anchor there. These are the only beaches accessible from the land side and the boats create a limit on access, safety issues for those in the water and possible beach erosion. When anchoring, please do so at least 30 feet from shore to allow water use for bathers and launch & retrieval access for the small sailboats. Craig 2
