FWYC Letter Log August 2017 | Page 15

FCYC A s many of you know, our Club is a member of the Florida Council of Yacht Clubs (FCYC). This membership keeps us aware of happenings in other member clubs, gives us an ear, and a voice, on what is taking place in the legislature that may impact our Club. In addition, our membership in FCYC affords our members reciprocal privileges at other member clubs.... the ability to charge your food and drink to your FWYC club number and one free night of dockage at the various clubs. More information and detail about the FCYC can be found at http://www.floridacouncilofyachtclubs.com/ or you can contact one of your Directors... Tom Reynolds or Mickey LaGarde This is the same opening paragraph that we have used a number of times... and it is still valid and correct. However recently a member has raised concerns that reciprocity (a privilege) is being limited or downgraded by your directors.... that is ludicrous! The Regular Meeting was 07-08 July 2017 at Naples Yacht Club both Alt Dir Mickey LaGarde and I attended with our wives. The FCYC had an already planned presentation and discussion on the subject of reciprocity. The results of that discussion will hopefully clarify things. • Reciprocity is a PRIVILEGE extended between FCYC clubs • The privilege is extended to Club members in good standing who have full access to Club facilities You do not have to actually access those facilities (i.e. slips) You do not have to be a voting member • Member clubs can make bilateral arrangements, limitations to reciprocal privileges This is especially the case in south Florida where there are many FCYC Clubs in close proximity... • Non-Resident and Temporary members do not have reciprocity privileges • All of our FCYC Clubs err on the side of accommodating members from other clubs If you have a problem, it is suggested that you contact your Director or Commodore. It should be noted: • Reciprocity is a privilege extended by the host club to a visiting club member • You should have available a currently valid Club membership card • It would be a good idea to have a “letter of introduction” from the Commodore • The host club may withdraw that privilege from any visiting club member and that does not affect the reciprocity agreement between clubs If you exhibit inappropriate dress or behavior, the host club can withdraw your reciprocity privilege You are, after all, a guest and can be turned away just as they can turn away any other guest • It is also suggested to call ahead to the host club to get an idea of events and dress code and slip availability • If you arrive with a camper or RV and want to stay on club grounds That is a decision completely up to the host club... there is no arrangement or privilege on this issue The next meeting will be 08 - 09 Sept 2017, Bradenton Yacht Club (Palmetto, FL)....if you have comments or questions that you would like addressed at FCYC please let us know. You are also welcome to attend (the invitation packet will be posted on the bulletin board or you can get one from the Commodore, Manager or Director) … just let us know so that we can make arrangements. 15 P/C Tom Reynolds Mickey LaGarde FWYC FCYC Director FWYC FCYC Alternate Director [email protected] [email protected] Just as an advance notice... the FCYC meeting in November (10 – 11 Nov 2017) will be here at Ft Walton Yacht Club....we can expect 80 – 100 members from FCYC Clubs.
