Page 12 WOW - Any Female Airman Project The monthly WOW luncheon will be Thursday, August 7th starting at 11:30 for social time and lunch is at noon. Your August hostess, Carole Langford is hoping to see you wearing your best Hawaiian ensemble. She told us she is searching for her coconut bra so the bar is set high, ladies. Whatever you choose to wear, join us for fun, friendship and lunch on the 7th. The WOW cocktail party continues the August Aloha month on Thursday, August 21st at 5:30 p.m. Carole looks forward to seeing the evening group in their Hawaiian outfits. We meet in the lounge to e njoy drink ‘specials’ and a light meal will be available. The islands are calling us…………. So many thanks for the wonderful contributions made to this project. We have received heartwarming “thank you” notes from several Air Force volunteers who distribute the contents of the boxes that we send to their units in Afghanistan. Here are some notes from the national website of volunteers: Capt. Maria (last name omitted), from a Legal Assistance Task Force in Afghanistan, wrote: “I represent a small flight of individuals that work seven days a week and are on call 24 hours a day. We all miss comforts of home and are trying to stay healthy at the same time. For the women, things such as bath scrunchies and women's razors are nonexistent. The water is highly chlorinated and it is hard on the skin: lotion is always gone by the time we get to the BX. Most of us are currently living in a dorm room with bunk beds with a minimum of six individuals to a room. We are required to clean our own rooms and, at times, it can be hard to get things such as wipes or floor cleaning items. We do our own laundry. There are times when we may not be able to make it to a dining facility , which makes it hard to eat nutritious food vs. junk food. Thank you for your support.” Another Airman, SSgt. Liza, whose assignment is “Combat Stress Control”, wrote: “ Living conditions for members of our unit ( 50 females, 150 males) are sparse and basic. There is little to no water for a shower. We receive one hot meal per day and mail does not come on a regular basis. I am looking for items to increase morale and improve daily living. Travel size toiletry items, baby wipes, toothpaste, female hygiene products, and snacks that travel easily, would be wonderful.” A “camouflage collection box” is in the office for any Fort Walton Yacht Club members who would like to donate to the Any Female Airman Project and you don't have to be a member of WOW. Of course, any member of WOW will be happy to deliver your contribution. Monetary donations will also be appreciated to help pay the cost of shipping our gifts to our lady Airmen. These are our Airmen who are in Afghanistan serving us. Your participation in WOW's project is so very much appreciated. Many FWYC friends contribute regularly: how about YOU! Lynne W.
