SPRING has finally arrived at FWYC. What a wonderful time of year to be at the Club!
Of course, any time of year is great at FWYC! We are all work-
ing to spread the word to others about our amazing venue of
water fun and sport, awesome friends, great food, exception-
al drinks, and outstanding service. Spring is a perfect time to
invite friends to Brunch or another time for enjoyment.
The Spring General Membership Meeting on Sunday, 8 April
will be a time to celebrate the wonderful things happening at
the Fort Walton Yacht Club. We will be auctioning off the VIP
parking place and the money will go into the Junior Donations Fund. There will be a Low
Country Shrimp Boil after the meeting, with a non-seafood option available as well.
There are a couple of changes to our Constitution that will be voted on if we have a
quorum, only 58 Regular Members. One change will bring our Constitution in-line with
our current Young Adult membership category. Another change will allow the club to
use email as a means of notifying the membership of General Membership and Special
Meetings. Currently, the Constitution states that these notices must be mailed out. The
expense of postage has prohibited the use of mailings in the past; therefore, this change
needs to be made. Our Constitution can only be changed by the membership at a Gen-
eral Membership meeting. These changes in their entirety are posted on the Club Bulle-
tin Board. Please plan on attending this important meeting. Only Regular members may
vote, but all are encouraged to attend.
I have a major announcement that I will make at the General Membership Meeting. I am
sure all of you will be excited about this new development at FWYC.
The patio smoking issue survey was mailed to all members. Please take
time to let your Board know your thoughts on the issue. All membership
categories are asked to weigh in on this, but there is only one survey
per member number. If you did not receive a survey, or have misplaced
it, please see Sandra for another one. There will be a forum about the
patio smoking issue at the General Membership Meeting as well. This is
another chance to let your Board and Flag Officers know your opinions.
On April 1, our new Sailing Director will begin working at FWYC. Jeff Drechsler has a tre-
mendous amount of experience in setting up and managing sailing programs at Yacht
Clubs and Municipal Sailing Clubs. Jeff was hired through a partnership between ECSA
and FWYC to promote sailing, teach sailing, maintain boats, check members out on
boats, help with training and coaching, and a host of other duties. He will work from April
through August. Emails will be sent out soon as to how to sign up for lessons or checkouts.
The first quarter of 2018 has been excellent. Thanks to all of you for making our Club a
better place. Let’s keep the momentum going throughout the year!
