Paul’s role in the entertainment industry started out as a Hip hop and R&B producer and artist. After acquiring the stage name is “Uncle Pauly,” he began producing music for local talent on the west side of Detroit. Later he began to create revenue singing at events (wherever he was needed) like weddings, funerals, ultimately performing at Detroit’s more upscale venues: Kwame’s “Dad’s Day Out”, Cobo Hall Black Expo Fair, Hart Plaza Summer Festivals, just to name a few. In 2008, Paul was offered a role in Plowshares Theatre’s “Soulfest” and later an understudy role in the Stage production, “Kwame a River II, The Wrath of Conyers”. From there he began his journey of writing, producing and directing my own stage plays including: “A Distant Past”, “Drastic Measures”, “Young Boyz”, “My Music, My Dream”, “The Gossip’l According to Ruth”, “An Evening with Donny” and more.

Q:Tell us who Paul Johnson, Jr. is.

A: My birth name is Paul Johnson Jr. (spiritual name, Kimoni Amaru Wys) I was born and raised in Detroit, Mi. I am a playwright, singer, songwriter, comedian and producer. I am also the owner of 313 Soul Entertainment, LLC (geared towards the preservation of music, theater and the arts in and around the Greater Metro Detroit area and abroad.

Q: How long have you been in the entertainment industry?

A: Since 1998

Q: Who or what inspired you to seek this type of career?

A: A friend, Kron Moore was my greatest inspiration at that point. She would inform me of auditions that she thought (knew) I’d ace. Once any director heard me sing… it was a wrap!

Q: Who has been your biggest

inspiration or supporter?

A: Definitely, my wife. She supports me whether I fail or succeed. Always there to help out with the production as well as give critical feedback as to how to make the next event better. Next my family, Mom, Sisters and Dad.
