Story By Angel Murrah
Our testimonies speak volumes,
but when it’s coming from our
youth it can sometimes touch us
and move us in ways we never
imagined. Here is the story of
13 year old Angel Murrah:
My Name is Angel Murrah, I am
13 yrs. old. Every since I was a
litle girl I always wanted to sing.
It didn't matter how angry, sad,
sick or low I felt. A song, a note
or a beat would raise my spirits.
My life was like a long road and
I was so busy looking back, left,
right and all around that I
forgot to look at the signs God
was giving me to reach my
goals.
I was adopted when I was 3
days old, by mom Sheryl
Murrah. As long as I can
remember she was doing
Missionary work over in Haiti.
We would prepare thousands of
pounds of supplies and do many
fundraisers like dinners, yard
sales, begging for help and she
made many personal sacrifices.
We travelled all across the
country doing fundraising and
raising awareness of Haiti's
situation. I gave my very first
Haiti presentation when I was 5
years old. I didn't quite
understand what Haiti was
about, but I knew my mom
loved going and she loved
helping them.
When I was 6 years old, my
mom married. My dad, her
husband, was very abusive to
us. This is when my writing
began, writing about how our
lives had changed because of
his drug use and his abusive
behavior towards us. We moved
to San Francisco from Atlanta to
help my dad get off drugs. He
did! But he still had the same
behavior, much didn't change.
Later he moved us to Louisville,
Kentucky to be near his
mother/family and one month
later he abandoned us again.
That's when my behavior got
out of control. Although abused,
I still loved my dad. He just
walked away, never to be seen
again. So I started acting out. I
forgot about God and music; life
was not the same. I started
stealing, lying, running away all
at the age of 10 ‘til I was 12.
I've been to the Mental Hospital
6 times and the last time was
for attempted suicide. My stay
was long, 6 long months away
from my mom and my family.
Through therapy I got back on
track with God, living right and
my music. There were times I
didn't think I was going to make
it. But God put some very
special people in my life to help
me through my storms and that
would be my God, mother,
family, friends and my music.
My mother, wanting to help me
with my dreams and goals,
contacted Marc Clemons and
my uncle George Gee to help
me with my project. From the
start they where on board and
brought in other
artist/engineers to help out.
They gave me songs, helped me
write songs and prepared me
vocally for the CD. I wanted to
do something special for my
mom, so I suggest to her that
we should give a percentage of
the sales to Haiti. We got that
done and now the sky is the
limit! I'll be performing at the
Christian Acapella Music Award
in Nashville 11-23-2012 and
have been nominated for 2
awards.
Music is an addiction for me
and I love it! My motto is take
one note at a time. My life is
now centered around God,
Family and music.
