Bogan

My interview with Durian Bogan was quite noteworthy.The Rockford, Illinois native has climbed his way up the entertainment ladder and has proven that one can be as successful as he or she wants to be.

Bogan started in the entertainment industry as a writer and an artist, which was his door into the entertainment world. He would later start recording his own music in the late 90’s, getting radio recognition in the Chicago and Milwaukee areas. Bogan started putting on tours when the artist came to those areas, gaining access to open for artists when they came to town. Bogan did this for about six or seven years. “I realized I was getting older and I wanted to evolve, so I went on to become the actual

host in concerts and from that I became an actual MC and so the artist would open the acts,” Bogan explained. He would remain in that position for two to three years and then from there he went to management and promotion. “I went from opening up, to hosting, then to hiring the artists as a promoter. I learned all angles of the industry and the promotional part to build myself as a promoter. For four or five years, I really didn’t have to work another job,” Bogan explained. He also did road management on the side. He knew most of the markets and promoters in the area. “I did marketing/ management off and on while I was a promoter. During the road management part of it, I worked with a kids group called Very Unique. It was a community service type of thing. Plus my daughter was in a dance group. They were all in school, they had talent and I started kind of managing them on the side. I had them doing a lot of community concerts for non-profit organizations and some of the local talent shows, but they were so
