Q: Tell us about Rusty Trimble, outside of being an author.

A: I was born February 17, 1971 in San Diego, California, born and raised. As a matter of fact I live 3 blocks away from the house I grew up in and my mom still lives there. I am the father of two incredible children, Andrew who turned 9 yesterday (8/26) and Tyler who is 2&1/2. They are my best friends in the whole world. When I am not working as an IT Service Analyst or writing, I am playing with my kids or taking them to the zoo, Legoland, Sea World, or on some other adventure. I am have been married to the woman of my dreams Nickcole Trimble for just over 12 years and I cannot imagine my life being any different or much better. Besides my kids, I love reading (favorite author Nelson DeMille), writing, playing softball, and the occasional video game. I am also a big fan of the old radio programs like Suspense, Inner Sanctum, and The Whistler, so find myself listening to those shows on CD along with artists like Rush, Cheap Trick, and Barry Manilow.

Q: How long have you been writing?

A: Well, I tried writing my first book at the age of 14. It was a 45 page, handwritten series of 1-2 page short stories called “30 Tales of Terror”. It was my attempt to write a bunch of stories in the vein of The Twilight Zone. I never submitted it, but it was not that good. I wrote for my high school paper The Arrow also. However I never seriously began considering writing until Andrew suggested it to me.

Q: Who or what inspired you to write?

A: My son Andrew. He had recently been diagnosed with Autism and bath times were difficult. He did not want to take baths or sit still in them. I decided to take a number of action figures and I created a number of “bath shows”, essentially impromptu performances where I had (for example) Darth Vader compete against The Mighty Thor in a singing contest. They made him laugh and I ended up doing 5-10 bath shows each day. Some of the shows were a bit more meaningful and He liked them so much he asked me to write a book. I can draw a bit and created Andrew’s Great Train Adventure. He liked it so I did another illustrated book and then as he entered the 1st grade I switched to chapter books. My two sons have been a wealth of inspiration for me as an author.
