Fuzionz Magazine and TV stepped into the interesting world of Willie Words HavMire. Check out our interview with Willie as he talks about his latest book and how he captures his audiences attention:

Q: Tell us a little about who you are.

A: My name is Willie HavMire, I’m a father of 4 and a promoter of Black Self Love & eradicator of Black Self Hate. I am from Saginaw Michigan and am currently living in Dallas where I am currently a paramedic, aspiring community activist and amateur boxer. I am in the process of getting my publishing company (Word Overdose Publications) off the ground and running. Word Overdose Publications will be a company that promotes Black Narratives from black points of view. Too often, we allow other ethnic groups to shape our narrative and define our image. An African proverb details WordOD’s theme best: Until the lion learns to tell its story, the hunter will always be the hero. That is the core of what WordOD will bring. My personal style of public speaking is affectionately self-titled “Vitamins in the Applesauce” which I define as: to give nutritious content in a format that’s easy to digest. It basically means sometimes we have to put the knowledge in more socially acceptable formats such as comedy and entertainment in order to see to it that it’s processed. My first printed book of the same title is scheduled for publishing this winter.

Q: How long have you been writing?

A: I have been writing since kindergarten (I kid, but not really). I have always enjoyed storytelling and really patterned my style from the parables Jesus told in the bible. His method of using simple scenarios to illustrate a point to an audience really resonated with me. I love telling stories both in audio and literature and having the audience vividly envision the details, this has shaped my writing style and as the years have went on, I have worked on perfecting the art of conveying a message through pen and pad (or today, via qwerty keyboard).

Q: What motivated you to get into the writing industry?

A: I was motivated to get in the writing industry by the lack of positive black male narratives in the stories I’ve read. From the books I’ve read like “The Color Purple” and “The Maintenance Man” one would think black men simply beat there women and were serial, sexual predators when many of us our just hard working men who are often misunderstood.

Also, I noticed that there was a growing segment of consciousness seeking men and women in the black community with no viable solutions in the literature and lectures that were available. Too often, we seek knowledge and understanding of the problems we face but we read books and are left agitated and disgruntled with no viable means to solve our problems only a narrative of history that paints of as great in our past yet no plan for a return to greatness in our future. These two circumstances prompted me to work on solutions and literature that can be thought provoking and transcendent.

Q: Tell us about your latest book and what prompted the idea for you to write it.

A: My latest book is an ebook titled “Mama’s Lil Man: The Raising of a Sonsband” and it’s a story
