Professor Carl Tone Jones, M. Ed. teaches at a junior college located on the outskirts of Philadelphia. In an exclusive interview with the professor, he states that he is an unapologetically African and aligns himself in the practices of many Pan-African/Black Nationalist belief systems in regards to creating an independent community of Black people who are self-reliant, self-sustained and self-protecting. Being a product of the inner-city of Philadelphia, Dr. Jones sees the beauty of the Black Community.

How long have you been in the radio industry?

I have been on the radio for the past three years as a regular guest appearing on shows locally here in Philadelphia such as The New World View on 900AM The WURD with David Barnes and Que Rainey and nationally on the Kaydee Barnett blogtalk radio show titled On The Edge which was broadcasted from NYC.

Shaunes Richardson interviewed me two years ago on her show, State of the Black Parent and we have been working on the conference ever since. I filled in for her last summer and was offered a slot by the network director Maurice Muhammad for which I graciously accepted and I have been broadcasting from the porch ever since.

What motivated you to do your show?

I am outspoken when it comes to the conditions of my community and the radio served as a medium for which I could share my views with the people that I am speaking out for. It also is a great tool to gauge the temperature of the community and allow for real time feedback from the people. But, mostly I love speaking on the radio because I want to present our community with an alternative to the corporate media which is biased and slanderous when discussing issues pertaining to the Black community. We offer the news and the issues from the lens of the Black community.

Elaborate on what your platform is about.

My platform is for the unification of the Black community so that we can function as one body when it comes to insulating ourselves from the onslaught of racism white supremacy through group and block functioning. We are a fragmented people who are psychologically damaged in ways that aid in our contempt for one another and I want to be a vehicle that serves as an agent of change in that regard.
