In my old age I look back at my life and realize so much of it was basketball. Even today basketball is my life. I owe so much to the players and coaches I played with and for. I can say with no exaggeration that basketball saved my life. During the most difficult times in my life I relied the most on coaches that mentored and molded me, and the players who shared some of my similar struggles. While playing the game early on I didn't realize how I was in fact learning essential principles on how to not only succeed in life but to attain my dreams.

Seven basic winning principles that I learned in basketball can be applied to everyday life.

1) Teamwork

Micheal Jordan was not a man alone on the court. Even though some folks feel like they make it in life alone, everyone has their own team working toward a common goal. Your team may be 5 while my team may be 3. Teams work best when everyone knows their role. Everyone knows their strengths and what they can contribute. Teams that are still having growing pains make a lot of mistakes and communication and goals are still a struggle to reach. Championship teams on the other hand, their mistakes are minimal and communication is less of a struggle making it easier for them to work together and for goals to be attained.
