Gatsby Benchmarks:
articulating the
challenges
More than 18 months into the government's Careers Strategy, we asked careers leaders
around the country which of the benchmarks is proving most difficult to attain.
ANNA HALL
CAREERS LEAD, JOHN HANSON COMMUNITY SCHOOL, HAMPSHIRE
Toughest benchmark: 3 — Addressing the needs of each pupil
There are always going to be some students, no matter
what you do, who are just not going to be interested in
careers information. The disengaged kids and their
parents are difficult to get to and if you don’t get buy-in
from the parents, it’s just harder all round. The hard to
reach are still very hard to reach
JODIE
MILBURN
CAREERS LEADER,
ESSA ACADEMY,
BOLTON
Toughest benchmark:
4 — Linking curriculum
learning with careers
It’s the
responsibility
of every teacher
in the academy
to educate young
people about
careers and the
skills they
need for
the future
