Lifelong skills learning is vital for young people,
especially with the world of work constantly
evolving. We spoke to energy supplier E.ON
about the skills it needs and the routes into
employment it offers.
ou might know E.ON as the company that supplies your gas
and electricity. However, as renewable energy sources become
more popular and customers gain a wider choice of suppliers,
the company will need new skills. Apprenticeship programme
lead Tammy Bristow and corporate responsibility and community relations
manager Suzanne Roe explain the options for young people.

How is the energy sector
changing and what does that
mean for young people?
TB: We’re currently moving from being
an engineering-based company to a
retail-based energy company so we
need to think about the skills we’ll need
in the future. Ten years ago, 60% of the
jobs available today weren’t even
invented. Take smart meters: our people
have the technical skills to install them,
