NEWS ROUND-UP RESOURCE FREE LESSON PLAN: SECONDARY DEBATING RESOURCE PACK As the UK heads to the polls for a snap General Election, young people will have witnessed the importance of stellar communication, marvelling at (or despairing of) politicians’ skills. To help them develop their own debating abilities, the UK Parliament provides a secondary Debating Resource Pack (lesson plan and worksheet) for use by teachers as part of the English or social studies curriculum (Citizenship KS3/4: Democracy, government and the rights and responsibilities of citizens). This includes warm-up activities (for example, a newspaper debate to get students thinking about current local and national issues), plus a guide to developing debating skill s and a procedure for a formal debate.
