FREE LESSON PLAN: SECONDARY DEBATING RESOURCE PACK
As the UK heads to the polls for a snap
General Election, young people will
have witnessed the importance of
stellar communication, marvelling at
(or despairing of) politicians’ skills.
To help them develop their own
debating abilities, the UK Parliament
provides a secondary Debating
Resource Pack (lesson plan and
worksheet) for use by teachers as
part of the English or social studies
curriculum (Citizenship KS3/4:
Democracy, government and the
rights and responsibilities of citizens).
This includes warm-up activities
(for example, a newspaper debate
to get students thinking about
current local and national issues),
plus a guide to developing debating
skill s and a procedure for a
formal debate.
