The Armaments Corporation of South Africa SOC Limited( Armscor) is an acquisition agency for the South African Department of Defence( DOD), and other organs of state, whose mandate is to provide the armed forces with state-of-the-art defence matériel, delivering innovative defence solutions efficiently and effectively. But beyond that, the organisation also has a mission to develop and empower the youth of South Africa.
The Armscor Youth Development Programme
Armscor’ s Youth Development Programme( YDP) is a corporate initiative aimed at cultivating an empowered youth that is socially responsible, productive and innovative. The YDP provides a wide range of opportunities and support to young people through targeted interventions so they acquire the necessary life and professional skills, receive study funding and internships and ultimately, increase their employability.
The Armscor YDP focus areas:
• Basic Education Level: Includes high school career fairs, Mathematics and Physical Science performance improvement drives, and corporate social investment support.
• Tertiary Education Level: Includes offering an all-inclusive bursary scheme to talented individuals to studying fulltime towards a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics( STEM) careers. Priority will be given to degree studies that are in line with future needs in the
