Choosing a tertiary education institution:
What to ask …
As yet, there seems to be no resolution to the disjunct between the amount of successful matriculants each year and the number of available first-year spaces at SA’ s universities. So what are the options for students who don’ t manage to secure a place?

Each year, hundreds of thousands of matriculants complete their final exams in the hopes of achieving a matric exemption. Yet, the number of available first-year spaces at SA’ s 26 public universities remain significantly lower than the number of qualifying applicants, leaving many capable learners competing for limited opportunities.
For first-time and returning university students, this provides an opportunity to explore the many alternative options available, including over 130 registered private tertiary education institutions.
With so much choice, and the world of work evolving at a seismic pace, matriculants and their parents need to adopt agile mindsets that move beyond traditional selection factors.
