Dinosaurs
Dinosaurs are a diverse group of animals that first appeared during the
Triassic period, 248 million years ago. They were the dominant landliving vertebrates for around 140 million years, from the beginning of
the Jurassic period (approx 206 million years ago) until the end of the
Cretaceous period (approx 66 million years ago).
Biologist and paleontologist Sir
Richard Owen coined the term
“Dinosauria” in 1841.
