Paying tribute to a few of the people to have recently passed away
STEVIE CHALMERS
Aged 83, 29 April
S
tevie was a Scottish footballer who played
as a centre-forward and spent the majority
of his career with Celtic. Stevie is the club's
fifth-highest goalscorer with 236 goals and is
considered one of their greatest players. Stevie is
particularly known for scoring the winning goal in
the 1967 European Cup Final against Inter Milan.
He later played for Morton and Partick Thistle,
and also represented Scotland five times in
international matches.
FREDDIE STARR
Aged 76, 9 May

reddie was an English comedian,
impressionist, singer and actor, best known
for his television performances. He was the lead
singer of pop group the Midniters during the early
1960s, and came to prominence in the early 1970s
after appearing on Opportunity Knocks and the
Royal Variety Performance. In the 1990s he starred
in several television shows, including Freddie
Starr, The Freddie Starr Show and An Audience
with Freddie Starr.
ASHLEY MASSARO

NIKI LAUDA
Aged 70, 21 May

iki was an Austrian formula one driver who won the F1 World Drivers'
Championship three times, winning in 1975, 1977 and 1984, he was also
an aviation entrepreneur. Niki was the only driver in F1 history to have been
champion for both Ferrari and McLaren, the sport's two most successful
constructors. He is widely considered one of the greatest F1 drivers of all time.
More recently as an aviation entrepreneur, he founded and ran three airlines
(Lauda Air, Niki, and Laudamotion).

shley was an American professional wrestler,
reality television contestant, television host,
and model. She was best known for her time
with WWE and for her appearance on Survivor:
China. She made her debut in WWE after winning
the WWE Diva Search in 2005, and went on to
wrestle until 2008 when she retired after her
daughter became sick. Away from wrestling Ashley
appeared as a model in FHM, Stuff, Maxim, along
with on the cover of Playboy.
NAN WINTON

BILLY MCNEILL
Aged 79, 22 April
B
illy was a Scottish football player and manager. He had a long association
with Celtic, spanning more than sixty years as a player, manager and club
ambassador. Billy captained Celtic's 'Lisbon Lions' as they became the first British
team to win the European Cup in 1967 and later spent two spells as the club's
manager. As a player and manager, he won 31 major trophies with Celtic. Billy
spent his entire playing career as a defender with Celtic and holds the club record
for most appearances, a total of 822 games over 18 seasons.

an was the first woman to read the BBC news,
when she presented the programme on 20
June 1960. Nan was an experienced journalist who
also worked on Panorama and Town and Around,
prior to joining the news team. Nan face many
challenges in her role, with TV bosses claiming
women were "too frivolous to be the bearers of
grave news", eventually Nan was forced to leave
her role after BBC audience research claimed that
women reading late news was "not acceptable".
