CANADIAN HOME TRENDS CAN YOU TALK ABOUT THE HOME’S DESIGN AND THE LAYOUT? COLONIAL CONCEPTS This started out as our Sycamore Model but modifications were made as most homeowners have individual ideas and perceptions. A threeseason screened porch was added (which is necessary); a timberframe entry was included as the focal point of the roadside elevation; an entryway to the three car garage was added with storage facilities and the master bedroom was changed to the rear elevation with the sunroom/office reversed to the front. CHT CAN YOU TALK ABOUT WHAT INSPIRED THE OVERALL DESIGN? CC The homeowner loved the bungalow aspect and the overall design was very appealing. The style was conducive to the acreage and fit well into the environment. CHT WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE DESIGN ELEMENT IN THIS HOME? CC The interior timberframe and the exterior timber entry in combination with the log home are our favorite design elements. CHT CAN YOU OFFER ADVICE TO READERS LOOKING TO DESIGN THEIR OWN HOME? CC The open concept is generally well thought out but oftentimes the bedrooms and storage areas are not given enough attention. Some homeowners want to downsize their square footage but forget that all the rooms will also become smaller. Will their king size bed now fit into the smaller bedroom and is there now room for their desired closet space? These are important questions to keep in mind when deliberating the size of the home. CHT WHERE DID YOU SAVE AND SPLURGE? CC We didn't go overboard on bathroom fixtures but splurged on the decorative timberframe and timber entry that added such a general warmth to the home. Also, a sound system throughout the house was a must for the homeowner. - Colonial Concepts Log & Timberframe, www.colonialconcepts.com 88 CANADIANHOMETRENDS.COM
