CANADIAN HOME TRENDS WHAT
INSPIRED THE OVERALL DESIGN?
LAKESIDE ARCHITECTURE The site
inspired the design of the cottage. The
cottage is situated in Eastern Ontario in
the Canadian Shield. The site is steeply
sloped towards the lake and features rocky
outcrops and treed areas. Close to the
water, there was a natural rock ledge and
the idea was to place the cottage close
to the lake but follow the site’s natural
contours. The owners wanted a cottage
that fit into the natural landscape and that
reflected the natural materials of the site.
As the cottage follows the site contours,
it provides the optimum use of sunlight,
views of lake and other natural areas.
Siting the cottage so close to the lake but
still having privacy and natural views of the
site is what I and the homeowners found
inspirational and exciting!
