MJC From the initial design to finishing the building process, depending on the size and complexity of the home it can be 14 to 24 months. It’s a marriage of sorts, for that extended period of time. It helps if you like each other and that you share the same integrity, vision, and expectations. CHT CAN YOU TELL US WHAT YOU MEAN BY A CLIENT’S EXPECTATIONS? MJC Some people want the cheapest possible build at the fastest possible time line, with the best possible quality. We like to remind our clients that it is only possible to achieve two of those three requests. If it’s cheap and fast, it won’t be high quality. In any build, realistic expectations are important. A fair price for delivering great quality on time is a reasonable expectation that we hope our clients will share with us. CHT WE’VE NOTICED AN INCREASE IN THE AMOUNT OF BUILDERS IN YOUR INDUSTRY OVER THE PAST FEW YEARS. WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON THIS? MJC There are many people that got into the custom home building business using family money and no formal education or experience in the building industry. They depend on the knowledge of the tradespeople and contractors to help them get through the build. This is usually a recipe for disaster. The client is entrusting the builder with one of the most important and perhaps expensive purchases in their lifetime. They are spending hard earned dollars on an investment that they expect to have the quality capable of being passed down from generation to generation. If the builder is not knowledgeable, then the tradespeople and contractors will not be corrected on their shortfalls, areas of improvement or at times, faulty workmanship. CHT WHAT PROJECTS ARE YOU CURRENTLY WORKING ON NOW? MJC We have two homes that are in the interior finishing stage and one home that is in the building envelope construction stage. We are waiting for a building permit for another home and are in the design stage for a new client. Michal J Cerny, PMP, PGSC President and CEO www.ambassadorfinecustomhomesinc.com
