T
he ingenuity, innovation and marvels of Leonardo da
Vinci’s world is brought to life in a wide-ranging and
stimulating exhibition which opened in Cape Town
on 27 November 2013. The highly interactive experience
has immersed visitors in Leonardo’s timeless brilliance
through full-scale interpretations of his inventions, and
unparalleled studies of his iconic art.
Da Vinci – The Genius demonstrates the full scope
of Leonardo’s remarkable achievements as an artist,
inventor, anatomist, sculptor, engineer, musician,
mathematician, architect and all-round Renaissance
thinker. Capetonians have the opportunity to experience
over 200 unique pieces including 75 life-size machine
inventions built using materials from Leonardo’s era,
and three-dimensional renderings of his most notable
Renaissance works.
The exhibition is a must-see for visitors of all ages and
backgrounds, providing an educational, entertaining and
enlightening experience, whether they are art, history,
engineering, mathematics, medicine or general philosophy
enthusiasts – or if they are simply seeing the depth and
breadth of Leonardo’s work for the very first time.
