imon & the Bande à Part are an introspective indie/folk/rock band
from Cape Town, whose music has been described as a unique
blend of folksie foot-tapping red wine fireside poetry. This trio,
with Simon on vocals and acoustic guitar, Eric Michot on bass and Ross
Campbell (Urban Creep, Benguela, Fetish) on drums, has released four
albums to date.
Simon’s self-recorded debut album, Unhinged, was released in 2001.
This led to discussions with producer Dave Maclean about a professionally
produced album, and for this, drummer Ross Campbell was recruited to
complete the band’s current line-up.
The critics hailed Pocketsongs, a completely home recorded and selffinanced offering, released towards the end of 2005, as an acoustic

My bassist dreamed it one night
- just saw it in big writing, woke
up and realised it would be a
great band name. It’s a French
expression that describes a group
that goes their own way, that
doesn’t follow the norm. Could be
translated as ‘Band of outsiders’.
