Without pressure, the group is encouraged to explore new ways of thinking, seeing and creating. No art experience is necessary and practising artists are welcome. Art materials will be supplied and charged at a cost of between R10 – R20 per session. Week 1: Friday 16th August 10h00 -12h30 An introduction to the history of the self-portrait as well as familiarization of the materials to be used during the workshops and the preparation of the working surface. Some drawing experimentation and exploration is included. Week 2: Friday 23rd August 10h00 -12h30 During the second workshop the group will familiarise themselves with their own facial physical structure. They will then learn the basic formula to creating a self-portrait. Week 3: Friday 30th August 10h00 -12h30 An in-depth study of the use of charcoal and the final drawing of the self-portrait. R250 per person per class, which includes coffee/tea and a muffin. Each stands a chance to be awarded a solo exhibition. This ultimate award will be won by the artist judged to have the most authentic and fresh approach to art-making and the greatest capability of continuously creating new pieces that deserve our attention.
