T H E A T R E • W H A T ’ S S H O W I N G There are those rare people who can look at the world and see things the rest of us don’t see until they show us. These are the writers. There are the special few who can take that vision and take it back into a world. These are the directors, the designers. There are fearless beings that can live in that world and show us who we are. These are our actors. There are dedicated people who know why that world matters so very much – crew, theatre staff, producers, investors, managers, marketers. And then there are the people who step forward and say “Show me the world, open me, and change me.” These are our audiences. And when all of these people come together and say “YES”, THERE IS THEATRE! JORDAN ROTH’s – producer of Broadway’s “Clybourne Park” – acceptance speech at the 2012 Tony Awards. Working across various mediums Below My Feet Date: 11 – 15 September Venue: Kalk Bay Theatre, Kalk Bay Time: 8pm Cost: R75 Bookings: kbt.co.za “Below My Feet”, a collaboration of movement (modern jazz, contemporary, tap and slight lyrical hip-hop), music (for the head, heart and feet), and media (full short film along with still images) is doing their final public run at the Kalk Bay Theatre. After opening for the National School’s Festival at the Artscape Theatre in Cape Town and the Guy Butler Theatre in Grahamstown, “Below My Feet” ran at the Masque Theatre in June before travelling to the National Arts Festival. “Emotive and Honest” “Breathtaking Choreography” - Cue 2012/2013 “Personal and Universal” “Perfect Timing” - Cape Argus 2013 “Wear Sunscreen” “Entertaining, thought provoking and empowering” - Nikita Mcshane 2013 The piece has been contracted by Arts Education for a full run for the Western Cape National School’s Festival 2014 at the Artscape Theatre in Cape Town. This well executed mix of dance as primary instrument combined with music and film, embraces the choreographer’s intention of communicating reality through form and beauty. A magnificent performance by vibrant artists, it assures constant engagement, from beginning to end, leaving behind a broadly smiling audience.” Anna-Marie Smith, Fre
