Pat ’ s story

In the time of Corona we made a life inside The walls became our family our freedom was denied Outside a strange intruder was stalking on the street Invisible and dangerous it made sense to retreat So how to keep our spirits up when everyone is hidden Contact with our loved ones is now strictly forbidden Friends are out there somewhere but not within my reach Safety rules are something I didn ’ t want to breach Could I try technology to keep me in the loop I ’ d heard a thing called video chat lets you join a group Slightly odd to think of colleagues chatting in your room Apparently it ’ s possible with Hangouts or Zoom My old laptop was very weary and past its sell by date Bring on the new technology I didn ' t want to wait So now to get equipment that is worthy of the task My credit card said that was fine , well just polite to ask My new laptop came quickly postie left it at the door I marvelled at its beauty and proceeded to explore How did it know my passwords it even knew my name All my files and emails appeared to be the same Ok I thought it can ' t be hard I ' ll give this thing a go It has a camera and a mike what more is there to know So ready at the meeting time I tried to look my best Then clicked the link that Laura sent the laptop did the rest My face appeared upon the screen familiar faces too To think that only yesterday I hadn ’ t got a clue It was a little strange at first but that soon disappeared This remotely lark is nowhere near as bad as I had feared
