Welcome to Fugitive Emissions Journal’ s third issue of 2025. We are looking back at the beginning of the year with pride and peering ahead at the rest of the year with great anticipation. We have two events under our belt: Fugitive Emissions Summit was held at the beginning of April in Pasadena, Texas, at San Jacinto College LyondellBasell Center for Petrochemical, Energy, and Technology, while Valve World Americas Expo & Conference took place at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston, Texas, on June 4 th and 5 th. We felt privileged to be part of the comradery and genuine admiration at both events, and we cannot wait to provide more networking opportunities at our next event.
Perseverance and dedication permeate the June issue’ s cover story on CDI Products. The company is celebrating well-deserved success after achieving Class AH tightness for ISO 15848-1. With this qualification the company delivered to its customer a Class A polymer stem seal that obstructs emissions. Turn to Page 6 to read about CDI’ s resolute commitment to tackling its customers’ design criteria, testing to precision, and confronting any challenges that present themselves.
Hydrogen is the June issue’ s special topic. Accelerating the energy transition is top of mind globally. Hydrogen is considered a renewable power type whose benefits are still being investigated. On Page 11, we explore the world’ s forecasted renewable capacity and how the flow control industry is espousing green energy. Turn to Page 24 to see hydrogen in action as CB & I and Shell reveal the completion of their combined effort – a first-of-its-kind, affordable, large-scale liquid hydrogen( LH2) storage tank at NASA’ s Marshall Space Flight Center( MSFC).
Dave Anderson of Score was the Chairman of the Fugitive Emissions Summit held in Pasadena, Texas, in April. His rousing address, reproduced on Page 31, challenges us to take our‘ MARCS’ and‘ GO’ effect positive environmental change.
Dana Wood is the VP of Environmental Consulting, Compliance and SaaS at Energy Overwatch LLC. In our discussion with Wood on Page 15, she expands on tracking the source of fugitive emissions and the responsibility of the oil & gas industry to navigate ever-changing regulations.
June’ s robust issue also includes an article on Page 26 that asks how oil and gas companies accurately calculate Scope 1 and Scope 3 emissions, measure oil and gas when they can only guess the impact further down the downstream value chain, and decide how far down the production chain an environmental impact assessment should reach. Three prominent environmental monitoring experts weigh in on the role sensor technology plays in environmental approval for future fossil sites.
Urooj Khan started her career as a chartered account and transitioned to become a certified ESG assurance expert. Incredibly, she has forged a connection between the world of finance and sustainability and helps organizations decipher their responsibility when it comes to greenhouse gas emissions reporting. To read more about Khan’ s path and outlook on fugitive emissions, turn to Page 12.
A lot has been documented about the negative effects of nitrogen, but this month’ s Global Highlights Map on Page 22 showcases various nitrogen projects around the world that are redefining nitrogen’ s reputation.
We are eager for you to read this issue of Fugitive Emissions Journal, which explores many interesting topics from various perspectives and the continued efforts to suppress and eliminate emissions. Enjoy!
