Welcome to the April 2025 edition of Fugitive Emissions Journal. This is an exciting issue with an excellent cover story from a truly innovative German company, Grandperspective GmgH. Peter Maas, CEO, explores how round-the-clock, data-driven monitoring is transforming safety in multi-compound facilities, where protecting workers and neighboring communities requires solving intricate emission detection challenges. The scanfeld ® advanced monitoring system allows operations teams to ask,‘ what emissions leaks are there in our facility?’ rather than just‘ is there X or Y emission here?’
The special topic for the issue is emission control in tanks, a challenge growing in complexity as regulations tighten and operational demands increase. Omar Cruz of Emerson delivers critical insights into hazardous storage tank pressure protection and emissions control, examining the essential equipment needed to safeguard low-pressure tanks while meeting new standards and minimizing environmental impact. His analysis provides a roadmap for balancing safety, compliance, and cost in an era of rapid technological advancement.
Eve Pope of IDTechEx unfolds the implications of Article 6.4’ s approval at COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan, shedding light on how voluntary carbon credit markets could accelerate carbon capture initiatives. She discusses how the door has opened for countries and businesses to trade credits on a UN carbon market. The discussion continues with Melanie Vanderlaan and Dan Fisher of The Dixon Group, who highlight the role of bellows sealed valves in combating fugitive emissions. Finally, Ralph Burgener of ABB articulates the role and importance of Green Hydrogen in decarbonizing manufacturing processes, with particular attention paid to batteries and energy storage.
This issue also includes a Global Highlights Map, keeping you up to date on the latest developments in hydrogen across the world, and the latest news and products. I am really rather proud of what we have put together here. I encourage you to send me your technical articles, case studies, press releases, along with any comments, queries, and concerns, at j. yule @ kci-world. com.
