News Margaret joins the team HOYER Petrolog’s winning drivers M argaret Major joined A&D Publishing at the beginning of the year to look after advertising sales for Fuel Oil News and Oil Installer. Born and raised in Gloucestershire, Margaret took a physics degree at London’s Imperial College, before joining a graduate sales & marketing scheme at Cadbury Schweppes. Margaret, who has worked in London, Frankfurt, Barcelona, Bath and Wales, has considerable experience in media sales, business development, general management and publishing. 1 st – Sion Williams has been working on the Shell fleet contract at Stanlow for 17 and a half years and this was the second time that he qualified for the final of the driver of the year competition. Margaret Major meets members of the Inver Energy team at FPS EXPO in Liverpool – Anthony Drake, commercial sales UK, Ger Coughlan, Ireland-based contract manager and Tony Wilson, commercial director Having worked with several special interest publications Margaret has ‘enjoyed the challenge of getting to grips with many quirky sectors in the world of narrow but deep titles which offer incredibly targeted content to a highly select and identifiable readership.’ With son Joshua (Josh) starting school, in 2008 Margaret and her husband Adrian, a fellow enthusiast for specialist media, set up their own business offering outsourced support in all areas of publishing. “Until a conversation with A&D Publishing led me to Fuel Oil News and Oil Installer, I never thought I would be able to incorporate my love of physics and all things science with my roles in specialist media. “Working with the team over the past few months, getting to know these new worlds has been very enjoyable. Having attended my first FPS EXPO in Liverpool last month, I’m putting more faces to names and I will be at OFTEC’s mini-conference this month.” [email protected] The three drivers (l-r) Sion, David and Stephen each received a trophy and a Red Letter Day prize voucher for £2250, £1000 and £500 respectively The winners beat off competition from HOYER Petrolog’s 1250 drivers in the UK. Over a period of eight months, from May to December 2016, all HOYER drivers competed to qualify for a place in the final ten. Drivers with the highest safety & efficiency scores (taken from the vehicle’s on-board truck computer), along with a faultless safety and service performance, represented their contract and terminal at the final. “It was important that each of the events was designed to push the drivers to the limit of their skills,” said Adrian Slade of Sigma Studies which partnered with HOYER UK in creating the finals event.” Marathon relief T im Clark successfully completed his latest Belfast City marathon in 5 hours and 22 minutes. “I was nearly 10 minutes slower than last year; the last few miles seem to get longer each year and making it to the end all the more of a relief! “This year’s run was in significantly warmer weather than an Ulsterman would normally expect. Some relief was available through a few thoughtful householders who directed the spray from their garden hose so that runners could run through it. The Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service took this to another level with an apparently ‘inviting’ deluge pouring down onto the road. Whilst I ran cheerfully into this, the effect was shockingly similar to jumping into an icy sea directly after sunbathing!” Tim ran in aid of Papyrus, a national charity that is helping to prevent suicide in young people. “Its service is aimed directly at those who find themselves contemplating suicide and also those worried about someone. Papyrus seeks to campaign and influence national policy on this deeply sad and all too common occurrence. As part of their approach they help to empower young people to lead suicide prevention in their own communities.” A post marathon Tim Clark – almost £20,000 has now been raised from 11 marathon efforts, if you would like to donate please visit www.justgiving.com/timclark11 Fuel Oil News | June 2017 7
