The DDA initiated land use and
zoning policy for a compact, mixed-
use Downtown, allowing for the
development
of
thousands
of
residential units to create a live-work-
play destination.
1965
1970s
Following a period of suburban flight,
the DDA purchased more than a
dozen acres of blighted and vacant
land to stimulate development.
Destinations like the Broward Center
for the Performing Arts, the Museum
of Discovery and Science, the Main
Library, Museum of Art, and Riverwalk
all exist due to the vision of early DDA
leaders.
THE DDA WAS ESTABLISHED BY SPECIAL ACT
OF THE FLORIDA STATE LEGISLATURE.
