26 FLORIDA STATE UNIVERSITY / COLLEGE OF MEDICINE
Match Day 2026
Match Day is when fourth-year medical students across the country learn where they’ ll continue their training after graduation, working as residents in teaching hospitals. It is arguably the biggest day of their medical school careers. Of this year’ s graduating class of 121, 120 participated in one of the matching programs and one chose to spend a year in medical research and will participate next year. Almost half of this year’ s graduates are staying in Florida for residency, which College of Medicine Dean Alma Littles, M. D., noted bodes well for Florida residents’ access to healthcare. A 2024 report by the Association of American Medical Colleges showed more than half – 58.6 % – of all physicians who completed their Graduate Medical Education over the previous 10 years had stayed to practice medicine in the state where they did residency.
All 120 graduates participating in the residency match found a home to continue their training.
