SSTRIDE includes a week-long, residential summer
program on campus for high school students to provide
a medical-school experience and motivate them toward
a career in health care. The ‘Summer Institute’ provides
students with guidance to excel academically and to
prepare for standardized tests including the ACT and
SAT. Participants are introduced to a variety of clinical
settings, receive mentoring, learn about college life, and gain
perspective about the life of a medical student.
During the week, they are exposed to aspects of the medical
school curriculum through interaction with faculty and
participation in faculty-led presentations about medical topics.
623 Summer Institute participants (2008-2018)
(146 tracked following completion of the program)
125 have graduated from a four-year college
37 have entered a graduate-level program after
completing an undergraduate degree
16 have gone on to enroll in a medical school
10 enrolled in the FSU College of Medicine
