charity
This year’s charitable partnership between AICR and the St Andrews Charity Fashion Show is
fortuitous and focused. We have the opportunity to work closely and one-on-one with the nonprofit AICR to develop a strategy to further their fundraising ends, and in turn raise the visibility of
our phenomenal event and this worthwhile cause.
The Association for International Cancer Research is a charity with its head office based in St.
Andrews, working on a global scale to find a worldwide solution to cancer. AICR has funded
research projects all over the globe, dedicated to working with very best scientific minds. They
support any type of cancer research, and in the past they have also worked locally with scientists
in Dundee, Edinburgh and Glasgow. The St Andrews Charity Fashion Show is proud to support
AICR with the proceeds from our Starfields Launch Party event and with all funds raised from our
February 2014 Fashion Show.
FS has decided to focus its efforts directly, with a restricted gift, to AICR benefitting Dr. Gareth
Inman and his team of researchers and oncologists at the Jacqui Wood Cancer Centre in
Dundee, Scotland. Dr. Inman was the first AICR Fellow, and the funds raised by FS in 2014 will go
towards fulfilling the remainder of his current research grant of £1 million. The gap is £60,000. FS
will make the final contribution to the project grant and will be matched pound-for-pound by
recent AICR fundraising activities. This is a rare opportunity to close the fundraising gap, and it is
an aspiration and inspiration for us all on the FS Committee.
In 2014 FS is making the important step to create a firm and tangible connection between the
funds raised at the show and the cause that we support. Each and every student, faculty
member, and sponsor who attends the show will see the direct impact that our organisation has,
and the philanthropic good we see as crucial to the vision, long-term strategy, and true passion
of the St Andrews Charity Fashion Show and its committee. With these values in mind, I hope
you enjoy the show!
