Jordon: Yes, you have to be able to communicate, and be very observant. You have to see what limitations people have. Some people won’t want to go to the point to make them better, and others want to push past that point too often. So you just have to be able to pay attention to the athlete and let them know realistically what is the best workout and weight for them to get them the fittest they can be without injury.

Q. If you could go back in time, would you still open a Crossfit gym?

A. Jordon: Yeah definitely, the coolest part is all of the lives we have seen changed. Outside of a church, you don’t really get to see this many people moving in a positive direction. It really puts a smile on your face when you get to see people’s lives change for the better.ally puts a smile on your face when you get to see people’s lives change for the better.

Q. What do you wish you knew (but didn’t) when you first opened the gym?

A. Jordon: I would say the way we program now, is unmatchable with what we have done before. And I imagine in 3 years from now, it will be exponentially smarter than we are now. You know, you only act on the knowledge you have at the time.

Q. Is Crossfit a “fad”?

A. Jordon: You know, that is probably the most asked question. I will say one thing, fitness is not a fad. People are always going to strive for fitness. People like the results they see in Crossfit, so I don’t think it’s going anywhere. I would say the only danger to Crossfit as a whole is inexperienced trainers that hurt people. If the danger level gets too high, versus the results it gets, then that can be damaging to the sport as a whole. But I do think they (Crossfit) are doing a great job of educating people.

Q. If you could give anyone advice on opening a Crossfit gym, what would you say?

A. Jordon: I would say go find someone that knows what they are talking about. Learn from the most knowledgeable in the sport. Most people are looking for a quick answer in life, and with this you need to go learn, go learn, go learn. If you want to be a doctor, it is going to take you 8 years to learn. I don’t think it will take you that long to open a Crossfit gym, but going to follow around someone that knows what they are talking about for a year or so to be able to actually be able to change people’s lives is the best decision you can make.

Q. If you could tell people 1 thing about Crossfit, what would it be?

A. Jesse: I think that people think that lifting weights is going to make you big, bulky, or it’s what men do. I don’t think people realize that lifting weights actually yields better results, than just to run. I mean you see all these runners with bad knees, and in Crossfit ,if taught properly, the weight lifting is just great for you and your body. It’s just awesome! It builds muscle, and burns body fat!

Jordon: I would say most women are afraid of looking a certain aesthetic, but A. it’s not easy to look like that and B. it’s highly unlikely to look like that, to be big. Mark Bell, who is a power lifter, always says “Strength is never a weakness.” I would say this is true for women as well. If you are going to get challenged in a parking lot by someone trying to take your purse, picking up your kids, or even helping your husband move something heavy, you being able to handle yourself.

Jesse: It’s doable! This is absolutely a community. That is one thing we hear from all of our new members, that everyone makes it feel welcoming and makes you feel like you can do it. Everyone cheers you on, and it is a family for sure.
