Direct Sales can be a great place to start for those who have never even though about working for themselves before. The reason being that most Direct Sales companies you don’t have to worry about carrying inventory and almost all Direct Sales companies these days offer online sales which really helps because you can reach people other than those within your local area.
Before you begin your search sit down and decide what type of products or services you enjoy the most. The way I did it when I chose the company I represent was to find a product that I was passionate about. Now how do you do that? Quite simple really, figure out what you like and try the product first. For example, I represent a weight loss and health product. I tried the product first and saw how it worked for me before I knew if I could sell it or not. Knowing that I was able to become passionate about the products, I was able to share my firsthand experience of the product with my customers.
Once you have decided on a product line, then you need to figure out which company is the best. There are so many product lines out there that are alike. The thing is they don’t all work the same, are different, startup costs are different, etc.. So these are all things to consider when you are looking for a company to work with. Your best bet is to do some research. Talk to consultants who already represent the company, find consultants who have been with the company for at least 3 months, this is important because you want to join under someone who knows what they are doing. It is very important to have a good sponsor when joining a Direct Sales Company. You don’t want to end up with someone who just looks at you as a dollar sign. You want someone who is going to help you build your business.
Once you have done your research, weighed your options, found a good sponsor and joined your company, the next step is just getting to work. This is going to take time and money, both which you will need to put into running your business. Just because you signed up under a great sponsor that is willing to help you, train you, mentor you, etc. doesn’t mean you’re done. Remember that they are not there to work your business for you, so you need to make sure you are starting a business that you can focus on. The most important thing about running your own business is doing your own footwork.
While the steps are simple, don’t join the first direct sales company you find. One of the most important things I tell everyone that I speak to about starting their own business with a Direct Sales company is that you really have to be passionate about what you are selling. I can’t stress this enough. If you are not passionate about the company you won’t be as willing to work at it and chances are you are not going to be successful. Starting your own business is A LOT of work and if you are not committed it won’t be much fun. Working for yourself is much like working a regular job. You don’t get paid if you don’t go to work.
